Jay Stewart's Battle with Lyme Disease
Donation protected
Jay Stewart lives in Stevensville, Ontario with his wife Carolyn and their three teenage sons, Micah, Riley and Caleb. Many people know the Stewart family from school activities, Fort Erie Church Outreach Meals, local sports events or through Riverside Community Church. Jay was the pastor at Riverside for 11 years before he had to stop working due to overwhelming symptoms brought on by a confirmed case of Lyme disease. He has not been able to work for two years and his insurance company will not provide any disability benefits.
Jay was sent to many Canadian specialists to determine the reason for his illness but there was no diagnosis for his debilitating symptoms. Unfortunately, the standard tests to diagnose Lyme disease in Canada are unreliable and treatment in Canada does not follow the treatment protocol set by the medical Lyme Organization, ILADS. As a result Jay has sought diagnosis and treatment in the United States. He has tested positive for Lyme and it's co-infections, and is presently being treated by Dr. Gregory Brown in Wisconsin.
Doctor Brown graduated from the University of Nebraska and is a board certified internist who has been in practice since 1988 with extensive experience in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Doctor Brown's practice includes chronic infectious diseases in children and adults, particularly chronic Lyme disease and it's co-infections.
Dr. Brown has recommended that the next step in Jay's treatment is IV antibiotics through the insertion of an IV PICC line. Jay will then have to have IV antibiotics administered through his PICC line six days a week for a minimum of eight months and up to 2 years. He will need weekly blood tests as well as regular monitoring to ensure that his body is responding well to the treatment.
Jay and his family have loved and influenced many in our community. Now we are seeking to return that same love to them as we do what we can to help cover some of the upcoming costs of his treatment.
