Face shields for frontline healthcare workers
Donation protected
With the number of COVID-19 cases continuing to rise along with the demand for PPE, we believe that every frontline healthcare worker and first responder deserves access to proper protection.
Unfortunately as a custom fabrication shop, we are unable to produce N95 masks. However, using our existing machines and equipment, we ARE able to manufacture a large number of face shields. We're definitely not the first in the game, but every little bit helps.
The CDC recommends the use of a minimum of an N95, concurrent with a face shield, for added protection from serious airborne respiratory infectious diseases; as well as to help extend the safe useful life of face masks.
These face shields will be packaged and DONATED to hospitals and healthcare workers across the GTA as they are completed.
We are taking NO PROFIT from this campaign, we just want to try to do our part to help. All money collected will go directly to face mask materials, overhead required for production, and 2.9% to GoFundMe fees.
After several iterations, we’ve developed a very simple yet effective unit. Although most designs are 3D printed, we are employing our large format CNC equipment to cut production time down drastically.
Our face shield has been designed with the following key parameters and materials:
1. Safety: The face shield meets all criteria outlined by the CDC - it covers the forehead, extends below the chin, and wraps around the side of the face. The clear shield is made of impact resistant Polycarbonate or PetG (depending on material availability), and is very secure yet easily removed for sanitation. The mounting angle is adjustable to allow for proper protection under the chin of all users. The frame is made of expanded PVC, chosen for its good strength-to-weight ratio, and water/chemical resistance.
2. Speed of production: We want to get these out to the people who need them as soon as possible, in order to help mitigate further transmission to essential workers. We’ve streamlined our design and manufacturing process to have the potential to produce 1000 units per day (depending on amount of money raised and material availability).
3. Cost: As these face shields will be donated, we have kept the cost as low as possible; while still maintaining full safety criteria. This was done through careful material choice and manufacturing processes.
4. Comfort: After seeing pictures of nurses and doctors with bruises from their N95 masks, we know how important user comfort is for prolonged wear. As such, our face shields are designed with a thick moisture resistant LDPE foam channel to cushion the forehead, and have an adjustable double elastic backing to fully support the back of the head comfortably.
As materials become increasingly difficult to source, we would greatly appreciate your donations to continue production.
These face shields have not been sanitized or approved by the FDA. They are strictly being produced in a time of need to aid in the effort against the spread of COVID-19.
**If you are in the healthcare industry and need face shields, please email us at [email redacted], and we’ll get you some. Thank you for your efforts.**
