It’s been almost nine years since my father passed. There’s many things I miss about him but probably the most is I miss everything he taught me about sports and the healthy competition that went along with it. Well, I found a way to feel that competition one more time. In 1987, at the age of 41, my father finished a marathon in 3 hours and 55 minutes. In 2001, I finished a half marathon in 1 hour and 52 minutes. After completing it I turned to my dad and said that I beat him. If you took my time and multiplied by 2 you would get a time that beat 3:55. He looked at me and said “turn around and do that again and then talk to me”. Most of you know that he died of a rare disease called Lewy Body Demetria. Things in my life have settled and it’s time for me to get involved and help out in any way I can so other families don’t have to go through what we had to. Neurological diseases are becoming more and more common and breakthroughs seem to be close. All they need is funding. I will be running in the Fort Worth marathon on November 10th at the age of 42. I’m not the best runner and right now not tracking to come within 20 minutes but like my Father would say, “that’s why you practice”. Please help me in honoring not just his name but the life he lived.
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Lewy Body Dementia Association, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
