I'm a 20 year old transgender guy. I've been out publicly as trans since early 2017 and I am hoping to get Double Incision Top Surgery later this year or early next year. If you don't know what Top Surgery is, it is reconstruction surgery of the chest to make it male presenting.
The surgeon I have chose to do my surgery is Dr. Kenneth Wolf in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Dr. Wolf has his own private practice. The practice does not take insurance as to keep the prices cheaper for people who pay out of pocket.
I had my consultation with Dr. Wolf and the total price of my surgery would be $5,800, which is amazing since Top Surgery can cost up to $9,000. I set the goal at $6,200 to include the cost of post-op pain medications. I'd be staying in Michigan for 4 days, 3 nights in order to have surgery the first day I arrive and then have a post-op appointment 3 days after the surgery.
For the past year, I've worked as an EMT. I just recently went to part-time in February because I'm back in school in a Medical Assistant program. As Top Surgery is hard on the body, I would be out of work for about a month before being able to join a second EMS service. I'll also be continuing my Medical Assistant program while recovering.
