Tax deductible

Dr. Jean Jacoby has dedicated her life's work to protecting watersheds from toxic pollution and harmful algal blooms. After a four-decade-long career, Dr. Jacoby is retiring. Her colleagues at Seattle University reached out to Clean Lakes Alliance to set up a fundraiser to give back to her home state of Wisconsin. Below is a brief bio on Dr. Jacoby provided by her colleagues and information on Clean Lakes Alliance.

"A native of Stevens Point, Dr. Jean Jacoby received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Water Resources and Limnology from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. After receiving MS and PhD degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Science from the University of Washington, Dr. Jacoby worked as a consultant and managed studies of toxic pollution in urban bays of Puget Sound, watershed and water quality investigations, and lake restoration projects. In 1991, she was appointed the Clare Boothe Luce Professor of Environmental Engineering at Seattle University, where she taught courses in environmental engineering and science and continued her research of lakes and streams with students. She has written dozens of articles on the ecology and management of toxic and nuisance algae and co-authored the textbook Pollutant Effects in Freshwaters: Applied Limnology.

Dr. Jacoby’s leadership roles have included serving as an associate editor for Lake & Reservoir Management journal, Regional Director of the North American Lake Management Society and Director of the Washington State Lake Protection Association. At Seattle University, she has served as Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Director of the Engineering Project Center and as an Associate Dean in the College of Science and Engineering. She has been recognized by the American Society of Engineering Education for teaching excellence and was the recipient of the Puget Sound Engineering Council’s Academic Engineer of the Year Award."
