Jean Jeskey living and medical expenses

In November 2022, Jean Jeskey was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer). The new year brought many unknowns to light, and with it came time for many decisions that one never hopes to make. With a lumpectomy in January, a port placement in February, and the start of chemo in March the journey to recovery had begun. Now as the last stretch of radiation treatment nears, Jean is facing a new challenge with covering life and medical bills from this unforeseen diagnosis of last year.

Jean has raised three children as a single parent, but these are not the only children that have been impacted by her presence. With 34 years of service as a pediatric ICU nurse, she has provided care to many children in the Northwest Ohio region. Many would describe her as patient, as compassionate, and an advocate for her patients while bringing a sense of humor to lighten the atmosphere of an ICU setting.

Since ending chemotherapy, Jean has lost most of her feeling in her hands and feet (neuropathy), and it is unknown if she will be able to return to bedside nursing. As a home with a single income, she has begun using the little savings she has to start paying medical and living expenses while waiting for acceptance of long-term disability.

A medical charge of $6,000 was received due to Jean's insurance not covering a tumor sample that was sent to California for genetic testing, as well as major electrical and plumbing issues with the house.
