Jean Morrows fight against breast cancer
Donation protected
We know Jean as a dedicated, loving and compassionate wife, mother of 4 who has spent her professional career as a critical care nurse and stroke system educator caring for others. Now it’s our turn to care for Jean and lend her support to her and her family. We were all shocked to learn that Jean was recently diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Jean is managing this stressful diagnosis in the determined, practical and methodical way she approaches challenges in life. We fully expect her strength and family support to get her through this journey, both the patient side of the health care system , and on the road to recovery.
Jean wants and deserves every chance at recovery, and a medication called Perjeta improves the ability to achieve a “complete response” to treatment. Perjeta works by blocking the cancer cell’s growth signals and also by stimulating the immune system to destroy the cancer cells. This potentially lifesaving treatment has been shown to reduce recurrence of the disease among those undergoing chemotherapy and is the standard of care for Jean’s diagnosis. The cost is significant and will not be covered by OHIP or her insurance, so Jean will have to pay $11,000 to receive this treatment. While all the other costs of living and raising a family are rising, this additional expense is a burden we can help to relieve. During this time Jean is not able to work, focusing all her energies on beating this disease . The diagnosis of cancer brings stress and uncertainty; we are hoping to raise funds to alleviate the financial strain that results from this treatment.
