The Backstory: Our mom JeanMarie was originally diagnosed with breast cancer back in November 2017. After undergoing a double mastectomy in December of that year she had been considered by her doctor and the multidisciplinary team to have "beat cancer" with no treatments necessary.
A 1% Chance of Cancer Returning: Unfortunately, fast forward two years later and here we are staring down the barrel of her breast cancer returning in her lymph nodes. Her breast cancer is an aggressive little beast and she is taking some of the nastiest medications they have to kill cancer. She has been undergoing chemo treatments since the beginning of November and has valiantly tried to maintain working throughout her treatments. Unfortunately, we quickly learned that chemo can be brutal. She is one of the toughest women I know and has a strong desire to continue working however was informed by her doctor this week that it is NOT his clinical recommendation that she continues to work. Mom still has a long road ahead of her and will be starting her second round of chemo soon; which will minimally be 12 weeks long. After treatments are completed she will be scanned again to see how the cancer is responding and if all is well will undergo another surgery to remove the lymph nodes impacted by cancer followed by 3-6 weeks of radiation. Additionally, mom's employment provides health insurance for herself and family which makes missing work that much more difficult. Although she has FMLA the length of time she will be off to go through her treatments, surgery recovery, and radiation will put her past her FMLA time causing a further financial burden of loss of income and potentially health insurance. We are asking for your prayers and any financial help that is laid upon your heart to provide. The money will go toward helping with maintaining health insurance, medical bills, travel back and forth to appointments, and daily living expenses while she undergoes treatment and recovers from surgery. Thank you for your prayers, generosity, and support during this difficult time.
