Jeanne Gilbertson's Care Support

Hey Everyone,

For those that aren't familiar with me, I'm Jeanne's son, John. This GoFundMe was created with the intent to help both mom (Jeanne) and her family provide care for her as she concludes her fight against metastatic breast cancer. Mom's cancer has spread to her brain, and she has foregone any further treatment for her cancer.

Mom was brought home to her duplex in Mount Vernon on Wednesday March 13th by my girlfriend and I. Since then, myself, my girlfriend (Audi), and my 2 aunts (Vickie and Julie) have been doing in home care for her through a rotation schedule around the clock during these hard times. With this has come serious need for care assistance. Many assisted living facilities in the area are not only booked up with waiting lists but are very expensive. Some as much as $435 a day with much larger security deposits. With the estimated time mom has left with us, we've been instructed to not apply for Medicaid as approval could take up to 6 weeks’ time. Because of this we are seeking financial help to provide additional in-home care for my mom through a private organization founded and ran by former/retired nurses in the greater Mount Horeb area. Funds contributed will go directly towards the daily care of my mom and any materials or food items that meet her wishes along the way.

Being able to see my mom’s fire and energy sparingly as this journey comes to a close has been what has kept us all going through the assistance we have been providing for her. That being said, performing these duties regularly, has not given us the appropriate time and effort to put in to the grieving process that we feel we owe her. Since this process has begun, my one and only goal has been to do exactly for my mom what she would have done for me. Unfortunately, the care and support I wish to provide for my mom, and continue providing for her, has come to a point where help is needed to help make sure she maintains the comfort I know she deserves during these tough days.
