Jee Hyun’s education

I am Ah Young Park, Jee Hyun’s older sister. I am making this personal campaign in the US to raise money in helping contribute to university tuition for my sister, who is currently in South Korea.

I remember watching my tiny baby sister crawl around on the floor with diapers, at our home back in El Salvador, where we lived together. While growing up in El Salvador, we experienced language barriers, frequently occurring natural disasters—earthquakes and tsunamis—tropical diseases, and the endless torrid heat. We ended up in the country of El Salvador because of our parents, who traveled there as missionaries from South Korea, back in 1998. In the year of 2000, Jee Hyun was born in this foreign Latin American country and never had the chance to live in Korea, up until the age of 13.

My family had to move back to South Korea in 2013, where my sister had the chance to finally experience the long-awaited culture of our parents' motherland. It was like entering to the realms of a new universe. From forever bright sunny days and open sugarcane fields came clashing with the claustrophobic and smog-filled city of Busan.

During my parents’ and sister’s move to Korea, they left everything behind, donating most of their items and coming to Korea with just a few suitcases.

My sister has a passion for the life sciences, leading her to win first place in the biology category at the regional science fair for three consecutive years. Jee Hyun is filled with empathy, serving her community as the president of the Volunteer Club and demonstrating her stellar leadership as the head leader of her chapter of the National Honor Society. She is known for her selfless acts: helping others as a student ambassador and as a fellow classmate. Jee Hyun constantly has an energetic smile on her face and always studies vigorously to satisfy her curiosity. My sister is a creative individual, which her artistic skills helps her a lot during her school projects and presentations.  She is top in her high school and has been accepted to Vanderbilt University, majoring in biomedical engineering.

(She has won 3 first places in a row every year in high school at the regional science fair in the biology field. )

Unfortunately, she was not able to receive any financial aid. Since my sister is an international student, she is not eligible for any scholarships, loans, or financial aid in the US. This is to help her like a scholarship to give to my sister. She cried with joy when she got accepted to Vanderbilt University. I hope she continues her studies and pursue her passion in biology.

I am very thankful to God for guiding us all this way and helping my sister throughout all her life; I am so grateful that we have friends and family and a wonderful community.

The money donated will be helpful for her to spend on her college fees.  (Any amount is appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please share our story on social media!)

We ask you to share this to anyone you know. Thank you so much for your time and love. God bless you!
