Jeff Benson's Transplant Expenses

Donation protected
Hello Friends,

I wanted to take the opportunity during this Christmas season to update everyone on the health and progress of our friend Jeff Benson.   As last reported, Jeff continues his battle with End Stage Liver Disease.  This disease results in symptoms ranging from Hepatic Encephalopathy, Hepatic Pulmonary Syndrome, Ascites, chronic abdomen pain, bed sweats, sleep deprivation, vomiting and fatigue.   Jeff has had to live with the worsening symptoms since May of 2014.  The things that we all take for granted are now a huge challenge every day for Jeff.

Over the last two years he has continued to attack this disease just like he does everything in life with a glass half full attitude with the strength and will to survive and beat the odds!  I know for a fact he has had days and weeks where he feels he can’t go on, but he continues to get up and continues to fight.  He has been on the transplant list for many months, but finding a matching organ can be so difficult and the process can be so overwhelming.  The medical bills continue to pile up and the pain continues with no apparent end.   We should be so proud of Jeff with the grace and courage that he has attacked this deadly disease.  Every time I speak with him it is never about him and it is always about me and my family.   He never fails to ask about how we are doing and never brings up his struggle until I force him down that road.   I speak to Jeff on at least a bi weekly basis and I can tell within 5 seconds whether the day is a good day or a bad day.  Through the summer the bad days began to overtake the good days, but he still never complains.

On December the 26th through a tragic and devastating accident, a family friend lost their daughter at the age of 24.  A beautiful life and beautiful person taken way too soon for any of us to comprehend.  God's timing and his will don't always align to what we feel it should be.   This young lady made a decision a few months back to be an organ donor with the idea of helping people even in her death.  That is exactly what she is doing now forJeff, as her mother immediately said that she wanted her liver donated to Jeff.  Her comment was that every time she was able to hug Jeff's neck, she would know her precious daughter would be alive in him.  Jeff will undergo liver transplant surgery today, December 28th at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.   As you can imagine, the costs associated with the surgery and moving forward are astronomical and he needs all of the help he can get.  We ask that you consider donating to Jeff and know that all monies received will be funded to him for those expenses by a family friend in the banking industry as all monies will go directly to an account set up for this purpose.  If you're unable to give, we ask that you continue to pray for Jeff and his recovery.  We also ask that you pray for the family who lost their daughter who selflessly made a decision that will change Jeff and his families life.  God Bless you all and thank you for taking the time to consider how you can help.
