Detective Jeff Burlew Family Memorial

In March, Jeff had a dental cleaning and during the cleaning, the doctors believed that a Strep bacteria entered his bloodstream. This infection moved around in his bloodstream for all of April and May making him feel sick several times but when he went to the doctor, it presented like a bad cold and a typical flu or viral infection. He was prescribed antibiotics but the infection was able to persist in his body, even thrive. By early June Jeff had lost almost 20 pounds and the infection had gone to his lower back. He thought it was unrelated until he woke up on the morning of July 8th, and couldn't get out of bed because of how severe his back pain was. He went to the ER that morning and after many blood tests and scans, multiple issues were finally apparent. The Doctor determined he had congestive heart failure, Endocroditis, Strep infection in his blood, and a damaged aortic valve. Doctors recommended open heart surgery to replace the valve on July 17th, 2023 due to the spread of bacteria.

Jeff is an amazing, loving, funny, intelligent father, husband, and friend. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, even if that meant that he was left without one. If you asked anyone who knows Jeff who he is, they would say he is an all-around great guy and someone you can always count on for a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, or a reliable friend and coworker. Jeff has served at the Sheriff’s office for over 28 years. He is a true patriot and a man of faith and family. His wife has been battling her blood cancer since 2021. He has been the main provider and she hasn't been able to work. Jeff’s recent and unexpected health decline in the last few months has left him hospitalized and now recovering in the ICU from heart surgery. Medical bills, as well as other financial obligations, have become overwhelming in the last few years. With his wife’s illness and Jeff’s current health issues, they could use prayer and financial support. Tonya’s car is in need of repairs and it is their only source of transportation.
