Hello,
First off, if you are looking at this, THANK YOU! My name is Sarah, I am Jeff’s wife.
Jeff is just about the hardest worker you will find. He worked 16 years in the Bering Sea as a commercial fisherman, then as a Welder for Precision CastParts where he was injured on the job and needed a knee replacement, but was too young at the time. 10 years ago he became a truck driver, driving for FedEx.
Over the course of the last 9 months he has taken a significant health hit. In June he had to have emergent back surgery causing him to be without an income for 3 months. He couldn’t receive paid FMLA at the time because Oregon hadn’t started their program yet. Just as he got back up on his feet, working again, his hip decided to give out, due to the original Knee injury, so he went off work, again, in December to have the Hip Replacement done. While doing routine blood work, it was discovered that he had a rare blood cancer, temporarily preventing him from being able to get the surgery. We attempted to get the Paid Leave from Oregon (which he paid in to 6 months of last year) and they continue to deny Appeals since he no longer works for the Oregon Company, but one out of Washington. He doesn’t qualify for Washington paid FMLA since the time he worked for them was outside of their qualifying quarters. Have I mentioned he is King of Murphys Law?!
Jeff will finally be able to have his surgery on March 18th, but will be out still for at least 2 more months at a minimum.
As his wife we have pulled together and we are doing all we can, including picking up a second job(me), but we are sinking hard and fast. If there is ANYTHING you can do to help, whether financially or sharing this, we, as a family, would be forever grateful. We do not come to this plead lightly, it takes a lot for this request, please know, it is truly appreciated!
