Jeff Holmgren- Stroke on 12.31.2022

Hi, I’m Michelle Qualley. I am here to ask for financial help for my brother, Jeff Holmgren. On New Year’s Eve, Jeff was at the Emerado Fire Department where he is a volunteer firefighter. He was doing some inspections of the medical bags and felt dizzy and weak so he sat down and called for the EMT and the assistant fire chief. They noticed the signs of stroke and slurred speech and called for the ambulance right away. Jeff was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Initially they thought it was a mini stroke but after several CT scans and 2 MRI’s it was confirmed a stroke. Jeff has right side paralysis at this time and his speech is impaired.

Fast forward 7 months now:

Jeff continues to have PT and OT, however, after not being able to go back to his previous job, he no longer has health insurance through work. His recovery is still a work in progress.

As with a lot of major medical events, Jeff has also been struggling with depression. The stress of trying to keep his medical bills and monthly bills/mortgage paid with just the disability payments has really taken a toll as well as not knowing if his employer will be able to find a position for him within the company as he can no longer be a heavy equipment hauler. He was cleared to work, but of course he has limited use of his right arm and hand, has a considerable limp and some speech issues, which makes it difficult to place him in a position.

I am asking for prayers for Jeff’s continued healing and for any monetary assistance to help him with his medical bills (the amount out of pocket is currently over $12,000) and monthly bills/expenses.
