Jeff Smith Accident Recovery Fund

Donation protected

Jeff Smith, a Christian husband, father and volleyball coach was injured in a devastating five-car accident on October 5 that threw him from his vehicle and totaled his car. He is the main breadwinner for his family and had no medical insurance (see below for full story). This fund will help to pay for his hospital bills, medical expenses, a replacement car and support for his family during his recovery. Any amount would be appreciated! Thank you for your support.

Background
I first met Jeff when I was hired as a copywriter at Awana in 2008. As the editorial manager, Jeff set the standard for the communications for the ministry, as he had for over 10 years. He was a prolific writer and tireless worker, always carrying a greater workload than anyone else in our department. That all ended in 2013 when he was laid off. Though several of us were let go during that life-altering year, Jeff was one of the hardest hit financially,

As the main support for his family, his life took a turn no one could have imagined. After sending out over 1,000 resumes, for the first time in his life, he was not able to find a full-time job—or even a part-time job with benefits. Still, he worked at whatever freelance jobs he could get to keep the family going. Eventually, he started working more hours for a nonprofit startup, but they still offered no benefits.

The Accident

Fast forward to October 5, 2018. Jeff was driving down the I-90 expressway near Marengo, Illinois, during a thunderstorm when, out of nowhere, he was hit by four different cars! He didn’t even know what was happening and had no time to react. The impact was so severe, he was thrown out the back window of his car and landed in a field on the side of the road! He woke up in the emergency room of Sherman Hospital with a severe concussion, broken ribs and cuts and bruises.

It was truly a miracle he survived and we thank God for that! “God kept me safe in a miraculous way,” Jeff said. “Could have easily died in many different ways that night.”

Be a Miracle

Now we are asking for you to be the hands and feet of Jesus in his life. He has been in incredible pain and still suffers from headaches every day. Due to the pain, he is unable to work. His car has been totaled as well.

With no medical insurance and his inability to work, bills are piling up. My biggest concern is financial,” Jeff says. “We don't have medical insurance, and the hospital bills, doctor bills and even bills from the fire protection district (for their services) and a company that did some blood work on me at the hospital are astronomical. We're praying for a financial miracle on top of my healing.”

Would you be willing to be that “miracle” for Jeff at this difficult time? Any amount, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

Would you also do one more thing and share the link to this page on your social media accounts or by email?

Thank you so much for your help! Please know that all that is donated (less GoFundMe’s small fees) will go directly to Jeff and his family.
