What would you do if you were a single woman, who worked hard to put yourself through college to achieve your dream of being a teacher in a special education classroom, only to be handed a cervical cancer diagnosis in your 40s?
You fight like hell to survive!
So you go through multiple surgical procedures, in 2 different hospitals, one of which is 50 minutes away. You go through 2 rounds of chemo with 4 different chemos and 1 immunotherapy. You go through 1 round of external radiation and 1 round of internal radiation. You have doctor's appointments and emergency room visits. All of this has multiple side effects, which cause you to no longer be able to perform your beloved career which you worked so hard to achieve and is your reason to get up every morning. Recently you developed a fistula, which requires you to now be bed-bound and you've lost over 100 lbs. throughout this ordeal.
At your last appointment when you're expecting to be told all of that was worth it and your cancer is gone, you're instead told the cancer is still there. And now your best course of action is to go through major surgery in the hopes that you can finally rid yourself of this terrible disease that has stolen your life for the last 15 months. Not to mention the lengthy and intense in-hospital and in-home care needed following this surgery. Your paychecks stopped in April and medical insurance soon after...now what?
Hi, my name is Sue & and I'm fundraising for my sister-in-law Jen Spahr because that is exactly what happened to her. Jen is known for her positive outlook, keen sense of humor & witty personality, which has caused her to loudly break out into song in public more times than I care to admit. She is also known for her sensitivity & care for individuals with special needs, and devotion to & love for her family and friends. She LOVES game night so much that our "Five Crowns" set of cards is literally disintegrating from playing it so often. If you have the heart and capacity to donate to Jen's medical and living expenses, she'd be so very grateful.
As I mentioned above, when Jen lost her paycheck, her insurance soon followed. And we all know that even when you make monthly insurance payments, which she's been doing, they don't cover the entire visit or procedures that you go through. Not to mention day-to-day living expenses and the extra prescriptions and medical supplies you need to deal with all of the after-effects of cancer treatments. Jen is not ready to give up, but does need our help to keep fighting successfully. If you can help, we would be so very grateful because we're not ready to give up on Jen either! Thank you in advance for anything you can share - we know it's a sacrifice and we don't take that lightly.
