UPDATE FROM OUR FRIEND JENICA: "Thank you to all my friends, current and former colleagues, and family for your contributions that allowed me to complete my first treatment set. Without your help, I would not have the following to report....I have completed 9 rounds of chemotherapy! My dog Reggie Wade has been by my side through it all! On November 7th, I received my scan results back, indicating that the chemotherapy was working but it is progressing very slowly. Starting December 12th, I will begin chemotherapy again. After this round, I will participate in targeted therapy. This round of treatment will last for approximately 6 weeks. My oncology team is hopeful that I will be able to start the new year (2 weeks into it) on the downward slope to being cancer free. I have received so much support since this all began and am very grateful for everything that people have done for me throughout this process. In order to finish out the last treatment and targeted therapy I will need help covering the cost of the medical expenses. The cost for me to cover is $2750."

This is my friend Jenica Faal. I met her when we worked together at the domestic violence shelter, Chlildren's Inn, in Sioux Falls, SD. She was in charge of the unit at the shelter that housed and provided care for children in the foster care system. Previous to working at Children's Inn Jenica obtained her master's degree in early childhood development and education and has dedicated her entire career to working with at-risk and displaced children, as well as serving the low-income population. Jenica currently works in Rapid City at Lutheran Social Services and Children's Home Society working in the foster care system and providing care to children who are not living at home.

Jenica has cancer. She was diagnosed in May 2022 with Ovarian Cancer. This is her third battle with this type of cancer. Recently she learned her chemo therapy has not been effective and her cancer has now progressed to Stage 3. Because of this, Jenica needs to have surgery and undergo further chemotherapy and radiation. Because this is Jenica's third time battling this disease, her options are limited. Jenica's friends, myself included, need to raise $3,100 to pay for Jenica's chemotherapy treatment after her procedure. The chemotherapy treatment requires payment prior to the administration of the therapy, and unfortunately, time is of the essence.

I am asking you to please donate any amount you can and pass this page/post along to anyone you can think of that would want to contribute to help pay for the chemotherapy treatment of a thiry-one old woman who has served our community, our children, the hopeless, and the broken. She has dedicated her life's work to serving the most vulnerable children in our society. I am asking that we all come together and serve Jenica by raising these funds for our dear friend. Jenica, we love, we are beside you, and you are not alone in this fight.
