Jennifer Inouye’s Journey

Hi my name is Maile Hirata and I am raising funds on behalf of my beautiful friend Jennifer.

Everyone that has befriended Jen knows that she would give the shirt off her back or her last dollar to anyone who needed it, without hesitation. She wears her heart on her sleeve and has the most loving soul. She fills a room with laughter and is always ready for an adventure. We all would like to keep her around for as long as possible.

She is currently living with congestive heart failure (CHF) with her heart functioning below 40 percent. Jen was initially diagnosed with this condition and placed on heart medication over 20 years ago. In 2022, she developed double pneumonia due her failing heart and the medication she took was no longer effective. Her CHF was now in the advanced stages. In 2023, Jen's cardiologist estimated a life span from few months to possibly two years but since her heart was only functioning at 20 percent, the estimate was likely less than a year. Jen has been unable to work since September of 2023 due to her condition and the other health issues that arise from CHF. Jen continues to take the aggressive medication to increase her heart function to greater her chances of qualifying for advanced heart therapy, which could include a heart transplant. She remains at high risk but is hopeful for her future. The costs of the treatments and everyday living is creating a hardship since she is not physically able nor allowed to work. Jennifer applied for disability back in Sept 2023 but has not received any follow up or benefits as of yet.

Some family background, Jen's father passed at 54 years old from a heart attack and her son passed at 28 years old while being worked up for a heart transplant.
