"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live."
In December, Jennifer received the life altering diagnosis of Stage III ovarian cancer, with a very rare cell type called clear cell carcinoma. There are only approximately 1,000 women diagnosed with this in the US per year and treatment options are limited, with generally very poor outcomes. On Christmas Eve she underwent extensive 5 hour abdominal de-bulking surgery that included a complete hysterectomy, appendectomy, removal of lymph nodes, etc. The recovery from this surgery alone takes a lot of time, several months at a minimum. Currently, she continues to heal well, albeit much slower than she would like. In addition, she is about 4 months into a treatment protocol that will last for at least a year. Her treatments are alternative, costly and not covered by medical insurance. The monies raised here will go directly towards her mounting medical costs.
If you know Jennifer, you know that she is absolutely amazing. Not only is she breathtakingly gorgeous, her outer beauty is surpassed by her inner beauty. She is a fiercely loyal and loving mother, she has a strength that is generally only found in superheroes, she's a talented psychologist, a gifted singer, wonderful friend and devoted child of God. I stand in awe of her faith and her strength. And, I know that she's got this; she's going to kick cancer's butt.
Jennifer is employed on a contract basis, which means that she is only paid when she works - no sick days or paid days off. Obviously with major surgery and ongoing, long term treatments, finances are an area of great concern for her. As I stated above, her current treatments are not covered by insurance. Despite this, her treatments are working! Her CA 125 levels have tested within the normal range since her surgery, which means that she is winning this fight! However, with her continued recovery and daily fight, she is not yet able to work without debilitating exhaustion and, of course, not working as a contract worker, means that she has no income from her job. In addition to all of that, she is a single mom to two beautiful kids, Amelia and Ethan. That is a lot on to carry on her shoulders! But it is in times that like that the beauty of the human spirit can really shine and the body of Christ can circle around and care for one of ours.
To restate, Jennifer is being faced with the very significant medical costs that come along with having a diagnosis that will need to be treated aggressively and long term. She also faces normal day-to-day costs of home ownership and being a single mom to two very active teenagers (with one headed to college in the fall! And, one who is a very serious ballerina). And, at this point she has unable to return to work. This means she will be financially falling short every month and that creates a lot of stress when what she really needs is peace of mind, so that her body can heal.
Will you please consider donating to Jennifer's fight? Your gift doesn't have to be a lot, it takes hundreds of tiny water droplets to create a pond and every single droplet matters. Thank you, so, so much, in advance.
