Jenny's story told by jenny.
Update on new journey, that far too many people have already taken.
I have cancer. On my right side, lymph nodes, right tonsil. It has a fancy name of metastatic squamous cell carcinoma.
A lot of people are asking how, what, when, etc. I am open to sharing everything, to say - if you notice something out of the normal with your body please have it checked.
So here is what happened:
On November 18, I felt a knot on my right side neck that I thought was a simple lymph node swelling. It's never happened before, but I knew this was not uncommon if your body is fighting an infection.
Ironically enough, I discovered the knot on my way back to work from my regular blood work appt at my doctor. So I already had an appt scheduled to go over those labs on Dec. 2.
When I went on Dec 2, I showed Brad the "knot".
He started me on an antibiotic for 10 days and told me to return then for him to check it again.
Y'all, my doctor is Brad Lawrence and he is awesome. He listens, he cares, he is really on it.
I went back on Dec 14.
Obviously the antibiotics didn't help. Instead of trying a bunch of other stuff, he immediately referred me to an ENT.
I'm so thankful for my doctor, who didn't delay. He put the referral in right then, not allowing me to hesitate or put it off.
So, I went to see Dr. Clenney, the ENT doctor at Robbins on Dec 29.
Another awesome doctor who I would recommend to everyone. That day after Dr. Clenney checked me, he put in an order for a CT scan, meanwhile 14 more days of a stronger antibiotic.
I got the CT on January 6, which showed a chain of lymph nodes swelling, enhancement of right tonsil with narrowing of the oropharynx.
Dr. Clenney called me as soon as he got these results. His recommendation was an ultrasound guided needle biopsy of the largest lymph node.
I had the biopsy on Thurs. Jan 20. Dr. Clenney called me on Mon Jan 24 to give me the life changing news that I have cancer.
Within 3 hours, McCreary Cancer was calling me with an appt for the next morning at 7:30.
I'm so grateful that God put these doctors to care for me who didn't stop or delay. Along with all the new doctors and care team helping me now.
I thank God for surrounding me with all of you. You are the most caring friends who love me, check on me, pray for me, support me. I am overwhelmed with joy for all that you have done.
I can't possibly ever tell you enough how grateful I am.
On Friday we'll see the surgeon, who will give us the plan. Whether he will do surgery or try to treat with Radiation & Chemo Jenny.
