Jenny Sharma: Nepalese Female Entrepreneur
Donation protected
Jenny Sharma was born in a rural village in Central Nepal. Women in her village had little opportunity to pursue education and outside employment and most had a heavy load of family responsibilities. Fortunately, Jenny’s parents encouraged her to attain a good education and branch out into the world. As a single mother, Jenny's passion for working with vulnerable women and children in Nepal led her to the field of development and gender. She spent 10 years with national and international organizations, where she focused on promoting womens' and childrens' rights and gender equality.
After encountering so many women who were tied to abusive relationships and faced significant societal barriers as a result of economic dependence, Jenny started her own tourism company in Nepal to be a role model. In 2019, just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic surged, she began Nature Connection Treks and Tours , promoting ethical and responsible tourism, and bought her first bed and breakfast hotel Nagarjun Eco Homestay .
In order to start her business, Jenny took out several loans and is now struggling to keep her business afloat. Every month Jenny pays 30,000 Nepali Rupees in mortgage expenses plus additional operating costs. That's equivalent to $250 dollars a month ($3,000 annually). In order for Jenny to keep her business and survive through the year, I am raising $5,000.
Jenny feels strongly that giving today will guarantee a full-service stay at Nagarjun Home Stay, her bed and breakfast, located conveniently in Kathmandu Valley. To that end:
$100+ will guarantee you a two week stay at her bed and breakfast (good for 3 years)
$50 - $99 will guarantee a one week stay (good for 2 years)
$25 - $49 will guarantee a two night stay (good for 2 years)
Rooms are per person and subject to availability. Unless specified at purchase, these rooms will be non-transferable.
