Donate to support Jenny VH in her cancer journey

On Monday, May 23rd, at 36 weeks pregnant and only 34 years old, Jenny attended a routine OB/GYN appointment, only to leave with the news that she had an aggressive and advanced form of breast cancer. Instantly, the exciting final days counting down the arrival of her third son became a devastating series of biopsies, tear-filled conversations with family, difficult appointments with surgeons and oncologists, and a flurry of emotions that quite honestly, we are all still trying to process.

Baby Cody Lee Vanden Heuvel was born via early induction on Friday, June 3rd, healthy as can be. Monday was already back to business and Tuesday was Jenny’s surgery to place a port in hopes to start chemotherapy ASAP — which is when a devastating series of setbacks began as a result of the surgeon accidentally puncturing a hole in the left lung. Long story short, what was supposed to be a simple two-hour procedure turned into nearly two weeks in the ICU. Jenny underwent pleurodesis lung surgery on Friday, June 10th to seal the hole and place two large tubes in her chest cavity to help suction, drain and re-inflate the lung. In addition to being an extremely painful procedure and recovery, Jenny struggled greatly with not being able to bond with Baby Cody or spend time with her family during the precious few days she would have had at home before starting the now delayed cancer treatments.

Despite these major setbacks, Dave & Jenny found comfort in having assembled a confident and compassionate care team who helped to rebuild a solid plan to act quickly upon hospital discharge. Overwhelming support from family has also been key in helping Dave take care of Dean, Will and newborn Baby Cody, while also balancing work and other responsibilities.

Jenny's first day of chemotherapy was June 28th and will continue for 20 weeks. She and the family will be posting updates at: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jennyvandenheuvel

The Vanden Heuvel family is at the beginning of a long struggle and will need all of our support. Please consider donating to help Dave and Jenny with the overwhelming expenses to come. Most importantly, please pray for their family as they navigate this challenging, stressful and uncertain path.
