Jenny's Run & Headshave for Mental Health & Cancer
Donation protected
Since Coronavirus hit, Jenny has spent a year suffering from terrible anxiety. This anxiety has made her almost housebound for a year, feeling unable to return to school, be outside or be around people. Occasional walks on the Common are a huge challenge with frequent panic attacks. However knowing that exercise is so helpful in the treatment of mental health Jenny has decided to set herself the huge mental and physical challenge of running the distance between her home in Stroud and London, 172.km. She has divided this into a month of daily runs of 5.5km up on Minchinhampton Common. At the end of 172km her finish line will take the form of having her hair completely shaved off. Any money raised will be divided equally between her 2 chosen charities: Young Minds and Children With Cancer UK.
YOUNG MINDS
Jenny has chosen Young Minds because she wants to try and raise awareness, and funds, for the mental health difficulties that many young people experience, not just in covid times, but on a daily basis.Did you know that 1 in 8 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder? That is between 3 and 4 children in every classroom throughout the country. Of those children only 1 in 3 can get access to NHS care and treatment, so it is vitally important to try and raise money for this charity to enable more children to receive help.
CHILDREN WITH CANCER UK
Billions of pounds have been spent world wide to help scientists develop amazing CoronaVirus vaccines in such a short time. This has been life changing for everyone. However for cancer sufferers so much more still needs to be done to save lives. Every day more than 12 young people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK. 4 out of 5 children that have treatment survive, but that also means 1 out of 5 dies. Money is needed for research and to develop safer, kinder and more effective cancer therapies. Presently only 2% of cancer research funding is spent on research that is fully dedicated to childhood cancers. With greater funding more children can hopefully ring the bell in hospital that signifies the end of their treatment.
Thankyou very much for any donation,no matter how small, you are able to make to help these 2
charities.
