Thank you everyone for the overwhelming generosity and support. The love and caring that has come from Jennifer’s fellow teachers, family and friends has been amazing. Thank you so much for the calls, cards and meals. Your generous donations will go to fund Jennifer’s treatment and care during her fight against Appendix Cancer.
In December 2014, Jennifer was diagnosed was what they thought was an ovarian cyst. During the operation they discovered something the surgeon had never seen before, a tumor growing out of the appendix. Now begins the long journey of fighting PMP or Appendix Cancer. This very rare cancer came as a shock to our whole family. We began researching Appendix Cancer and discovered that we would have to travel far to find a specialist. Since we have now met with the oncologists and surgeons, we know she will have to have the HIPEC surgery and years of treatment. We are raising money to pay for medical bills and the cost of travel.
To tell you a little bit about Jennifer, you will not find a more giving and gentle person. She is a special education teacher at Kenwood Elementary in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was also the 2012 Teacher of the year for the Bowling Green school district. She has two beautiful children. Ela, who is 9, does girl scouts, plays piano and is learning guitar. Ela is also dedicated to help her bother (when she isn’t telling him what to do) with his disabilities. Her son Aleks, now age 7, was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Gross and Fine Motor Delay, Dyslexia and is Learning Disabled. When she found few resources for Children in the area with Apraxia, she was a founding member of a support group which grew into the NWO Apraxia Support Group which raises tens of thousands of dollars for children in need. They help pay for resources including speech therapy for families who may have otherwise gone without or have access to very few services.
