This fundraiser is being started by the friends of Jeobanny, Maritza his wife and their 4 year old son Jeobanny Jr to help with unexpected medical expenses.
In 2021, Jeobanny was experiencing stomach issues that seemed like acid reflux and his doctor prescribed a medication which resolved the symptoms. Then in 2022, the symptoms recurred and the doctor prescribed the same medication, but this time it didn’t help as much. In early November, the symptoms became much worse and while at home playing with his young son, Jeobanny became faint, nauseous, and couldn’t talk.
Jeobanny was rushed to the hospital and given a CAT scan, which revealed multiple masses in his torso and biopsies were performed. On December 12, his family learned the tragic news that he had stage 4 gastric cancer which had spread from his stomach to his liver, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, and bones. The doctors were surprised that this occurred in a 37-year-old otherwise healthy person as the average age of persons when diagnosed is 68.
The week before Christmas Jeobanny started chemotherapy treatments that will continue for several months while the doctors monitor their effectiveness. Despite the serious diagnosis, Jeobanny has a positive outlook and says “Only God knows when your time is up, and until God calls his name he intends to do all he can to get cured.” He continues to work at the Long Island Tile Company where his coworkers affectionately call him ‘Jay’ and regard him as a very good natured and sweet person.
Jeobanny and Maritza have rented a small apartment on Long Island, NY since immigrating to the United States from El Salvador in 2010. He initially worked as a landscaper before joining his current company in 2016. Maritza also works, but their income is modest and without medical insurance, the impact of his treatments will be significant.
They are greatly appreciative of the outpouring of encouragement they have received from friends and family so far. Please keep Jeobanny, Maritza and Jeobanny Jr. in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with the difficulties that few young families must endure. This fund will be used to help ease the financial burden they face from their medical bills and allow them to focus on overcoming his exceptional life challenge.
