Jeremiah Thompson: The Road Back
Donation protected
JEREMIAH HAS BEEN FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE. NOW IT'S TIME FOR US TO HELP.
$25,000 will cover the medical bills and monthly bills the Thompson family needs over the next 3 months of recovery.
On February 19th Jeremiah was admitted to Ojai Valley Hospital with what appeared to be a herniated disc. His pain levels were severe enough that he couldn’t walk or sit up, only lay flat. They wanted to monitor him and manage his pain with the hope that he would be discharged by the weekend. After a couple of days though, his progress started declining and there was concern about a possible underlying infection. The Doctor in Ojai decided to transfer him down to Ventura for further testing that they didn’t have available in Ojai. Upon arrival, the new team of Doctors determined via MRI that he had abscesses surrounding the herniated disc and that the infection was now in his bone and blood making it life threatening. They immediately began aggressive IV treatments to help kill the bacteria and in turn, eliminate the excruciating pain around the disc.
As they begin to discharge him from the hospital, he will have to continue IV antibiotics at home for a course of 6 weeks at a cost of $1,000 per week just for the antibiotics. This cost does not reflect the cost of follow-up imaging, prescription medication costs, and blood draws. Jeremiah will be off work until he can get well enough to return to normal activity.
What this means is this:
As the primary income provider for the family, if he isn’t working, there isn’t income coming in as Erin runs the back office for both of his practices. The insurance plan that he is on will not cover any of the prescription costs outside the hospital and the manufacturer doesn’t have any programs to decrease the costs. Also, the insurance doesn’t cover additional follow-up appointments and imaging.
If Jeremiah does not get the medication, the infection will overtake his blood and he will end up septic and back in the hospital fighting for his life again.
Erin will be administering his antibiotics multiple times a day and caring for him as he has to be monitored over the first few weeks of treatment.
Jeremiah and Erin do their best to care for the needs of those in their community and keep costs low to make sure those who need care are able to receive it. This puts them in a month to month financial situation. And while they’ve done their best to plan for the unexpected, this surpassed anything they could’ve ever thought of. And they’ve had a few unexpected financial costs in recent months with Erin’s Dad having cancer and passing away in December (taking time off work for that to be with her Mom) , along with travel/death expenses.
Let us come together to make sure our doctor, who serves us weekly, receives the treatment he so desperately needs to recover! Any financial donations are greatly appreciated to offset the costs during this scary and difficult time.
You can also help them financially by purchasing hair products or vitamins via their resale accounts. Everything helps!
