Jeremy Mackay's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
If you know Jeremy Mackay, you already know that this independent, selfless soul never asks anything from anyone. He’s the one that would give his shirt off of his back for anyone, whether he knew you or not. So it is no surprise when he opened his home to his son’s mom and two sisters aged 16 and 6 due to unforeseen circumstances weeks before Christmas that left them in dire need of a place to live.

In May, just as his son's mom was getting started on her career, things took a dramatic change in Jeremy's health. Although he had suffered major weight loss and health concerns the previous few years that left him severely sick, this was different. He was missing a lot of time at work for doctors' appointments just to be misdiagnosed. He knew something was way more serious than the mild C.O.P.D that he was misdiagnosed with. So after three different hospitals, he finally found someone willing to dig deeper.

On August 30th all their lives would change. They found out he had bilateral vocal cord paralysis that causes extreme fatigue, severe breathing problems, and difficulty talking. The doctor ordered an MRI of his brain to see why the nerves to his vocal cords were being damaged and that's when they found a tumor on his brain stem. He tried working for a few more days but it was too much for his health, and by doctor's orders he had to take an immediate leave of absence from work.

His son's mom had to immediately put her career on hold to care for Jeremy while he fights for his life. She had no obligation to do so but he was there for her and her kids when they needed it without hesitation. The doctors immediately ordered a high-risk brain biopsy that took place on Sept 20th. After 5 hours of surgery, they were able to get a good sample of the tumor. Unfortunately, they found out it was Midline Glioma, which can not be surgically removed since it is attached to his nerves.

Recovering from the surgery while waiting on results was the hardest fight yet. He met with his oncologist on October 4th, where he was told it was cancerous. They proceeded to set up the chemo and radiation treatment starting October 14th for 6 weeks and then a month off and chemo for 6+months afterward. His disability pay is his only source of income for the family of 5. Bills have been adding up quickly and he is currently having treatment in Salt Lake City 5 days a week for 6 weeks. He has already spent thousands of dollars with all the traveling, hotel costs, and doctor bills. With much more to come, he is going to need all the help he can get. The last thing he needs is financial stress at this time of his life. He has never asked for help so we are asking for him. Any amount helps! Even hotel points or just sharing this with others will help make a difference.❤️
