Jeremy Weingartner Memorial Scholarship
Donation protected
The family of Jeremy Weingartner, in collaboration with the Moberly Area Community College Foundation, is creating a scholarship to honor and celebrate his memory.
Jeremy came to teaching later in his life, but teaching and caring for others was his life’s work. After working mostly in customer service through his early adult life, Jeremy decided to attend Moberly Area Community College and study mechatronics, hoping to restart his career and find more meaningful work. As a tutor at the Library and Academic Resource Center, he quickly discovered his love for teaching and helping students. Jeremy was a popular and sought-after tutor during his two years there, always patient and kind to students as he helped them study and work through everything from English essays to engineering problems. Faculty and other students consistently referred students to Jeremy because they knew he could be counted on to treat them with deep respect and work with them to help solve problems.
When Jeremy completed his degree at MACC in 2018, one of his instructors recommended him for an opening teaching industrial technology at Lange Middle School, where he taught for four years and built many bonds with students and colleagues. He helped with numerous extracurricular activities, including Lange’s Young Men of Excellence, a program that identified at-risk students and provided them with after school enrichment and positive adult role models. In his fifth year, he moved to the Columbia Area Career Center, where he continued to teach industrial arts and engineering courses to high school students.
Just two months into this job, in October 2022, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer at age 45. Even in those two months, he made meaningful connections with his new students and colleagues.
This scholarship is intended to honor Jeremy’s love for teaching and his students. He had so much more to give to his students and family, and it is his family’s hope to be able to carry on Jeremy’s legacy through a scholarship for MACC students pursuing STEM education.
