Jericho the Orphan Foal

Donation protected
On the morning of April 17th, I got a call from a friend, desperate to save his orphaned foal.  His mother, bleeding profusely from a traumatic emergency delivery, could not be saved.  I knew that coming to our heated facility with 24 hour care would be the colt's only chance for survival.  So, I adopted the little guy without really knowing what exactly I was in for.
I knew he was in trouble when by the next morning, one of the joints on his hind legs began to swell.  An emergency trip to the University of Minnesota Equine Center revealed what we had feared - an infection in the joint.  He had received a good amount of life-saving colostrum milk from his mother before she died, but it wasn't enough to fight off an infection, and it grew rampantly in his frail young body.  In addition to his condition, he also had suffered two rib fractures during his traumatic birth.
After a heartwrenching day at the clinic, we decided that we were going to try to give this colt the best chance possible and fight to save his life.  He was energetic, happy and playful, eating very well and a delight to all the clinic staff.
We named him Jericho, after the Jericho rose or "ressurection flower" which is known for its uncanny ability to come back to life after being through the harshest of conditions.
Little Jericho needs your help to get through this.  So far he has had a plasma transfusion, 2 days of intensive care, and 2 joint flushes.  He needs 10 days of hospitalization and round the clock care.  He needs his joints flushed several more times, and a surgery to repair his two broken ribs.
Honestly, walking into the clinic, his chances were not good and we were seriously considering euthanasia.  But after seeing him run, buck and play in his stall then suck down a bottle of milk in record time, we thought that this guy really deserved a fighting chance at life.
This little miracle needs your help.  His hospital bills are easily going to reach $12,000 and I just can't in any capacity meet that.  Out of kindness, out of empathy, out of the good that is in all of our hearts, I ask you to help me give Jericho a chance at life.  Please help in any way that you can to keep his care going.  We're taking this day by day and appreciate anything that you can give.  Another few dollars is another medication, another hour of hospital stay, another blood test, or another technician to watch over him while he sleeps.  Thank you so much for caring, and for giving anything that you can.
