Jerry and Tiffany Crose~ Emergency Help
Friday December 13th of 2019.
Jerry Crose, a Shelby, Ohio resident, took a sip of his daily coffee only to start feeling terrible a while after. He came home early from the detail business he owns in Shelby located at Rocket Chevrolet Car Dealership to lay down in hopes of shaking the the way he felt. His wife, Tiffany Crose, was in contact with him and after finding out exactly how he was feeling she decided he needed to go right to the hospital! She left from her work immediately. One of their close friends was able to get him there much quicker given he was much closer than she was. Jerry was rushed to the hospital in Shelby MedCentral. Many scans, X-rays, and tests were preformed. He had an Aortic Dissection. His blood pressure was 254/150. They life flighted him by helicopter to Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Upon arrival he was rushed into emergency surgery. His body temperature was lowered and his chest was opened up and surgery began. He was very lucky to make it through the surgery. Many hours later they started to warm him and close his chest up. After further care was given it was realized that he started bleeding. They were going to have to rush him back into surgery, luckily they had tried a different medicine and was able to get the bleeding under control. They also discovered his kidney was having complication due to the long term high blood pressure that was never realized. Over the years it had been raising slowly enough to not show signs. As the days followed there were many up and downs. He was taken off any sedatives to bring him back awake however he wasn’t waking. A ventilator is breathing for him and Jerry wouldn’t be taken off of that until he was awake and able to lift his head and able to breathe for himself. Days went by with not much change. He had some weakness on his left side. More scans and tests were ran in hopes to find what was happening. They had stabilized his blood pressure in a more comfortable range. His urine output was right where they wanted to see it at each hour. He was initiating breathes yet the machines still assist with the exhale and sometimes some of the inhales. The scans and EEG showed nothing to explain why he wasn’t awake yet though. They brought in a neurologist to run more tests. He decided to use some contrast material in hops it could shed some light. The only thing they found was some spasming in a main artery in his neck. Medicine was given to address that. He started to show some eye fluttering, reactions to certain touches, and hand squeezing. Still Jerry was not awake. After removing more tubes and wires and whatnot they did an MRI. The results showed during surgery he had suffered 3 strokes. One on each side of his brain towards the front and one in the back part of his brain. That is an area that helps regulate the body temperature and sleep. He had been still running a low grade fever and had much weakness on his left side. As days go by he regains more strength and had started to even open his eyes up for short time. He had given a thumbs up reaction to answer questions and has started to be able to nod to communicate. Jerry has been waking up! He is still on a ventilator but he has been making progress. He is being fed through a tube currently. His eyes have been able stay open for longer periods of time. This will be a battle that will take much time as there r still so many obstacle still to go. During all of this Tiffany has been right at his side trying to stay strong. His vitals seems to do much better when she is right there sitting in the same room keeping him calm. She will be trying to return to work while trying to commute from the Shelby area to Riverside Hospital. That is over an hour and a half drive each way. After the tornado hit Rocket in Shelby months back it has dramatically decreased the money he was making. Now who knows if he will be able to return to working. Only time will tell.
With all of that being said I’d like to help raise money to take some of the financial strain off of Tiffany as she will be the only income now. With all of their normal bills she will be cutting back what she doesn’t absolutely need. But bills will still be rolling in like rent, electric, gas, water/sewer, insurance, phone, etc. The drive will increase the amount of money needed to commute. She will have times she will need to take off of work to take care of Jerry and things needed for his care. He is very far from ’’out of the woods’’ still. How long is still yet to be determined but could be months at the least. They were already in a decent financial bind after the tornado tore his business location apart. With Christmas around the corner I ask for anyone to find it in their hearts to donate any money they could. Any amount of donations provided it will ease that much more of the strain and stress associated with this extremely rough and heartbreaking journey.
Thank you for taking the time to read through their story and considering helping them out. Thank you to all who will donate! It truly would be such a help and would be appreciate more than you will ever know!
~Sincerely,
Ashley Salyer
