Our dad, Jerry Barton passed away unexpectedly on 12/08/2020. He leaves behind 3 children; myself, Ashley 22, Faith 20, and Bret 16. As his oldest children, my sister and I are legally responsible for all of the funeral arrangements and memorial expenses. I am a full time student and my sister works part time as a home health aid, so we were not at all prepared for this financial burden. We have reached out to DHS as well as many other organizations for financial assistance and were told that the maximum we could receive was only around $150. The cremation cost alone is $1532 and that is before memorial expenses. We know this is a difficult time for everybody right now especially with the holidays around the corner but any contribution, no matter how small, would be extraordinarily helpful.
Our dad enjoyed camping, going to the races and watching WWE and Impact Wrestling. He was an avid baseball/softball player until he developed health issues down the line. He worked at Home Depot and really enjoyed his time there and loved all of his coworkers. He loved spending time with his family and Halloween was his favorite holiday. He was a rock star through and through. Some of his favorite musicians were Nirvana, ACDC and Guns N Roses. He was very compassionate and caring and would have done anything for anybody. In his younger years, he enjoyed attending Red Wings and Tigers games.
Our dad was a very attentive and supportive father even after our parents divorced when we were only 7, 5, and 1 year old. During the weekends he spent with us, he would take us ice skating, to movies and to Great Lakes Loons baseball games. He attended every sports game any of us ever played in, was in the audience at our choir concerts and supported us through anything we wanted to try. He was always someone we knew we could count on when we were in trouble, dad could help us out no matter what.
We are absolutely heartbroken and still trying to process this unimaginable loss and any help we could receive with the financial aspects would be immensely appreciated.
