JES Outdoor Learning Space, a project by PIE

Tax deductible
The Jericho Elementary school community, together with PIE (Partners in Education), are hard at work creating a dedicated Outdoor Learning Space for our children and educators.  Any money donated here will go directly towards funding the building of this structure.

JES has long had a vision of providing our children with quality time outdoors.  Now more than ever (during the pandemic) we appreciate the value of fresh air and the opportunity to learn outside of the walls of our traditional classrooms. Our dream is that the new Outdoor Learning Space will be a multipurpose space that will not only allow teachers to easily hold classroom lessons outside, but it will also provide a space for community to gather, children to play and friendships and creativity to grow for years and years to come.

The design for the Outdoor Learning Space has been born out of years of experience using our much loved natural classrooms around the school grounds and along the nature walk. Designers have listened to feedback from teachers and staff and have given special attention to what works well and how we can improve upon these pre-existing spaces to enhance usage by all.

Our new Outdoor Learning Space will be centrally located by the northern border of the playground area and opposite the pizza oven.  The structure will be within easy access of the school building as well as being in close proximity to the school garden, pizza oven and play structures, allowing much versatility in its use.  The Space is being designed to be built in stages and will be expandable.  The first stage of building will produce a covered Space that will seat 1 full classroom spaced with current COVID guidelines.

You can find more updates on the Outdoor Learning Space here.

We appreciate your generosity and support of our efforts to build a dedicated Outdoor Learning Space at Jericho Elementary school.   Every little bit helps!

If you are interested in helping in other ways, we are currently seeking building materials.  You can find a list of needed materials here .  Or you can contact Dave Bouchard at [email redacted].  As soon as building begins we will be looking for volunteers to help on work party days, so stay tuned for announcements. If you have a general interest in becoming in involved with the creation of the OLS, please reach out to either Dave Bouchard @ [email redacted] or Colleen Flaherty @ [email redacted]

It takes a village!  And together we will all be stronger and healthier.

Much Gratitude,
The JES community

*If we do not meet our fundraising goal, please know that PIE will make every best effort to phase the building of the OLS to match funding and community support.  In the unforeseen event that building of the OLS is prevented from continuing, all funds donated here to this OLS campaign will be utilized by PIE to support our school in ways needed and aligned with this movement.
