JeSansChez' "Dirty 30" Art Debut
Donation protected
I DID IT!!!!
Late last year, I was in a group show at Greenpoint Gallery and won!The prize was some cash and a solo show to be held in the spring of 2013.
Spring has sprung! And I am now preparing for my very first solo gallery exhibition.
As if that's not big enough, this spring is my 30th birthday!!!
So I am taking over Greenpoint Gallery on May 31st, 2013 for an artsy birthday gala!!
Who is JeSansChez?
JeSansChez is me, Joi Sanchez, creator of artsy things like photographs, poems, workshops, open mic shows, and improve cabarets.I studied film photography at NYU before going to Brooklyn College for Business Administration.
For most of my life, I only pursued art as a hobby until my late 20's when I was stuck in a management position that was draining the life out of me. I turned to my writing & photography to let off the steam and rediscovered my passion for life. It was then that I decided to make my passion into a life that I love to live. A little more then a year later, I'm having my first solo exhibition.
Why do I need your help?
Because I'm a real deal starving artist, with a day job, kids, and every other woe that life has to offer. While I steadily look for grants & fellowships to support my artistry, the fact remains that the opportunities for self-taught artists like myself is very narrow when you lack certain credentials. I am unable to produce a show of this magnitude on my shoestring budget, so I'm reaching out to you good people to help me acquire the tools I need for success.
OK but why should you help me?
Because you believe in my ambitions and talents. You want me to be successful and know that having the tools are a necessity for that success to happen.
What does your donation go to?
Primarily your donation goes to fund the entire creation of this show. It will allow me to buy the paint that I use for shoots and post print work. It will also allow me to buy & process the black & white film I am shooting with, as well as get the pictures printed out for the exhibition. I also hope to be able to put some of the donations towards the purchase of a replacement laptop I use to edit my pieces.
This show will encompass the entire two floors of Greenpoint Gallery. On the first floor will be my solo works. The second floor will have a group show by amazing artists, hand picked by me. Because it is my solo show, it's my responsibility to book bands/musical entertainment for that night. As awesome as I am, I can't get them to play for free. A small portion of these donations go to pay them as well.
Last but not least, THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for your support, encouragement, and inspiration. Each and every one of you has been an inspiration for my work. I used to be skeptical of myself. I didn't trust that I had what it takes to accomplish as much as I have in this past year. Its only through the amazing connections and interactions I have had with all of you, that I have been blessed with my dreams come true. To have a life I love, making art and being my very best every day. Thank you.
