Jess’ Fundraiser for Team Kenya
On September 12th I’ll be running the great north run (my first half marathon - eeek ! ) with my good mate Katie Thomas to raise awareness and vital funds needed to educate girls in Ndhiwa, Kenya. If you would like to join me in making a difference to the lives of these young girls, thank you in advance for your contribution to a cause that means so much to me.
More about Team Kenya and the impact they’ve made on one little girl’s life:
Team Kenya’s mission is to involve entire communities in gender equality, so that girls in rural Kenya can create their own bright futures.
Saida’s story:
Saida is a 10 year old girl from Ndhiwa Hospital School pictured above with her grandmother receiving emergency support.
Saida is an orphan; she is HIV positive and asthmatic. Her grandmother is very caring, but is also in poor health and has no work and no income and has therefore been desperately struggling to feed the family.
Team Kenya and Twende Pamoja have been able to supply Saida with the medication she needs and her grandmother has had agricultural support (vegetable seedlings) as well as a range of basic needs to help her put food on the table.
Saida has been seen every month since the start of the coronavirus epidemic. On each visit she has been given basic needs as required (e.g. pants, body jelly, cooking oil, washing powder, crocks, soap and tooth paste), and she has been attending counselling sessions and also learning activities and the Girls Forum at Karibuni.
Saida’s health has improved now that she is getting regular medication and food, and her grandmother is extremely grateful for the agricultural support which will help them in the longer term.
Saida is just one of 38 girls who have been identified as being in extreme need. Unfortunately this number continues to increase. With your help, we can support more girls like Saida.
