Fundraising for Jess McGinty
We are fundraising for our wonderful friend, Jess McGinty, who was involved in a terrible accident at the end of July leaving her with lifelong injuries. We are planning for this money to be used as Jess wishes, with current suggestions for specialist equipment or home modifications to help promote Jess' independence.
For those that don’t know, whilst at a party with her friends in July a 60ft tree collapsed and fell onto her. She has been left with paralysis from the waist down. She was immediately transferred to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge where she underwent operations and spent weeks in ITU. After recovery in Cambridge she was transferred to the Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injuries Centre in Sheffield, and spent 3 months there undergoing spinal rehabilitation. She was discharged a couple of weeks ago and is currently adjusting to life at home. The impact on Jess is more than an inability to walk, with loss of nerve function to other parts of the body complicating recovery.
Those who have visited Jess have been constantly struck by her resilience and positive mindset over the recent months. It should come as little surprise to us as that infectious personality is the reason she has touched so many people, and so many have personal interest in her recovery. With such widespread desire to help, any support would go a long way to making small differences in her life.
Jess is planning on resuming work as a doctor in London after a period of time in Sheffield. Now, moreso than ever, we are in awe of her spirit, her good humour, and her positive character; and it feels right to support however we can.
