Jess Perkins Burn Trauma Relief Fund
With so much else going on in the world, on Saturday May 9th, my beautiful, vivacious sister Jessica Perkins was severely injured.
At a Celebration of Life gathering for a well loved friend, Jess tripped, stumbled and ultimately fell into an active fire pit. A fire pit that would cause severe burns to her face, chest, neck, ear and hands- 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Luckily, her life was spared, but her injuries leave weeks and months of surgery and recovery.
At the local ER, it was decided to immediately ambulance Jess to the VCU Trauma Burn Center in Richmond, VA for treatment.
Jessica is now in a hospital far away from any home, family and friends, without the ability of visitors for comfort her, in the time she needs them most. No visitors are permitted due to the current health crisis.
Prayers, good vibes, and your help is what Jessica and the Perkins family needs most at this time.
Our Jess is a person whom has always shared everything of herself with others to bring them joy. Whether it be her charismatic personality, the shirt off her back or the money in her purse, she has always helped others and now she needs us to help her.
While she is too injured and humble to ask on her own, we, as a collective of family and friends, are asking for your help on her behalf.
Thankfully, her life was spared thanks to the quick action and thinking of our brother Matt, Tyler Moore and friend James Hollowell. But the hospitalization time, necessary surgeries and recovery treatment plans are unknown at this point.
Medically speaking, the swelling in her chest/neck has subsided to the point that no intubation or ventilator became necessary to maintain the ability to breathe! Again, the necessary period of hospitalization and care is unknown. There is a tentative surgery scheduled for Thursday, May 14, for debridement and skin grafts on her neck and chest. Until swelling in her face has reduced more, facial skin graft details are unknown.
Jess lives and works in the restaurant industry in Nashville, TN. As the current state of the world has already put her out of work for many weeks, the financial strain of a long hospitalization and surgeries, in addition to regular living expenses is daunting, even with health insurance coverage.
The goal of this campaign is to lighten the load and stress of her medical and living expenses so that she can focus on recovery. The burden of hospitalization and care and medical expenses uncovered by insurance, on top of living expenses that are already piling up, is the last thing we want Jessica to be concerned with at this time.
The Perkins family is so grateful for the support and love for Jess and our family during this time. Due to hospital restrictions, she is not allowed any visitors, even family. We ache to be with her.
Any and all donations will be used to cover medicaland living expenses for Jess in her hour of need. Thank you all for your love and support ❤️
