My name is Melloney and I am fundraising to help my client and friend Jess Woods. A few weeks ago 28 year old Jess found out she has stage 3c Ovarian cancer. She had been in pain for 6 years and repeatedly went to her doctor. They even suggested that it may be all in her head although recently they did find that she had gallstones . It was during an operation to remove her gallbladder that they found the cancer and that it had spread all around her pelvis. They couldn’t risk it spreading further so they didn’t perform the operation and stitched her up. So she came round from her anaesthetic to be told, not only that she had cancer but due to it spreading she would never be able to have children, she would probably lose her bowel and end up with a stoma too. Jess is constantly in pain and has the biggest fight of her life ahead of her. She is due to start her chemotherapy on 13th April. I’ve known Jess for 20 years, her family lived opposite me. Jess was a lovely kid and is now a beautiful woman inside and out. I’ve been doing Jess and her mum Paula’s hair since I met them. Jess has the most amazing thick hair, she has always dressed it beautifully, I will be cutting Jess’s hair off in the coming week so it won’t be so distressing when it all falls out with the chemotherapy. It was Paula that told me the awful news when I went to do her hair. We both stood in her kitchen crying, I was gutted for Jess, she always wanted to be a mum. Paula told me that now Jess was too ilI to work and her partner Lewis has stopped work to look after her. This meant that they were going to have to move as they can’t afford the house they are currently living in. That’s when I decided I had to try to help. I am asking my clients, friends,family, people that know Jess’s family and people who don’t. Please help me do something amazing for Jess. Let’s raise enough money so she doesn’t have the worry and stress of having to move at this difficult time. She will receive some benefits but it’s not going to be enough. Any amount of donation would be so gratefully received. If you can’t afford to donate then please forward this to someone who may be able to help. Maybe we can all go without our bottle of wine,beer, chocolate treat, manicure, take away or night out. This nightmare could happen to any one of us. It’s very real for Jess and her family. Jess has a tough time ahead of her. I just want to make the year ahead slightly more bearable for her so she can concentrate on fighting this cancer and surviving. I have asked Jess’s permission to do this fundraiser and she wanted to say Thankyou but also make us all aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. It is known as the silent killer. Tiredness, bloating, back pain, loss of appetite, abdominal pain and a feeling of always being full are some of them.
