This fundraiser is on behalf of the family of one of our teammates and brothers on The Ohio State Wrestling Team, Alex Sepeda. Alex's dad, Jesse, was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer which came as a complete surprise to him and his family. Our team came together and decided to make an effort to do what we can to support this family during this difficult time.
Below is the Sepeda's description of their challenging past few weeks:
Jesse was complaining of difficulty swallowing. While thinking it was a reflux issue, he followed up with our family doctor, which prescribed him medication.
After a second visit, he mentioned pain in his left calf. On Wednesday Nov 23, 2016, the physician sent him for an ultra sound which revealed a blood clot in his calf.
Immediately they treated him with blood thinners.
On Sunday Nov 27 , he continued to show signs of pain and discomfort. He was taken to the local hospital, who then transferred him to Riverside Methodist Hospital.
That Monday Nov 28, a endoscopy test revealed a mass at the base of his esophagus approximate 5 centimeters big. After performing a biopsy, it was later determined to be positive for esophageal cancer. A cat scan then revealed the cancer had spread into his liver, lungs and lymph nodes (Stage IV Metastasis esophageal cancer), which is inoperable and incurable. Right away we started an aggressive chemotherapy reevaluated. This included an infusion of chemo every 3 weeks along with a pill form of chemo that is taken orally. This will continue 4 more times and he will then be reexamined. Due to the chemo, Jesse had to be hospitalized again. It's an emotional time but we are keeping our faith strong.
We hope to bring some relief and comfort to Alex and his family, contributing to Jesse's fight against cancer. The funds would be used and transferred to Jesse's wife, Charlotte Sepeda, for expenses such as out of pocket expenses for multiple prescriptions and medical bills, and daily expenses for radiation and chemotherapy treatments as well as the necessary transportation. All of which will help Charlotte support this family in their group fight with Jesse.
