Jessica Darling - Medical Crisis

Donation protected
Jessica was rushed by ambulance to the hospital last Wednesday from work when she became severely ill. They sent her home on antibiotics with what they thought was a severe UTI. The next day the pain and symptoms drastically increased. She was taken to the ER at UPMC Mercy Hospital with a fever of 106! They immediately assessed the situation, got her on IV fluids and antibiotics to try and decrease her temperature and control the pain.  She was advised that they would be admitting her.  Severe kidney infection was diagnosed.  Antibiotics were given through IV with no improvement for the next couple days.  They were able to bring her temperature down to 101 /102 degrees with medication and control the pain with pain medication but not address the infection. The antibiotics were not working. The doctors discovered she has ESBL bacteria after receiving the results from the culture. It is highly resistant to most antibiotics. They finally got an IV antibiotic that was successful in attacking the ESBL bacteria, finally reducing her fever and easing the pain.  They just let her know that she would be released from the hospital probably tomorrow but will have to remain on this IV antibiotic for at least a month. They installed a PICC line in her arm today which through a tube will deliver the medication to a large vein near the heart. She will not be able to return to work until the treatments are completed.

Her current employer sent her a text to inform her that they would have to let her go as they needed someone they could depend on.

Jessica is a single mother to Jj who is 9 years old.  She now has medical bills compiling for a weeks’ time in the hospital. Several cat scans, ultra sounds and so many other tests and treatments.  She was in an isolation room. Due to the type of bacteria it was necessary to keep her away from other patients with weakened immune systems.  Her health insurance will not cover many of the expenses.

Loss of pay for the week she was hospitalized and now for the duration of her treatment where she will have to receive home health care.  She will not be able to work until the treatments are completed which will be at least a month.

Like all of us, she made ends meet but now is struggling to pay her monthly cost of living bills, rent, utilities, insurance, food and the stream of medical bills that will soon be pouring in.

I am Jessica's mother, Shelly. We are helping with what we can.
No donation is too small. Every dollar will help keep their rent paid, utilities on, and help pay the upcoming medical costs that were acquired and will continue until her treatment is complete.
Then she will be able to go back to work and get back on her feet.
