Jessica for Miss BC

My name is Jessica Yaniv and I'm running for the 2019 Miss BC pageant. Being part of the LGBTQQIP2SAA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, pansexual, 2-spirited, asexual, and allies community), it's important to take a stand for equality and human rights which is why I am running. Money raised through GoFundMe will go to both Miss BC and my entry to ensure my success in this competition. Miss BC donates the funds to an amazing charity called Cops For Cancer.

Cops for Cancer is a program launched in partnership between first responders across the country and the Canadian Cancer Society, to support children and families affected by childhood cancer.

The inception of this program began with one police officer and has been growing rapidly amongst communities across Canada. Since 1997, the program has raised over $42 million to fund life-saving pediatric cancer research and support programs. As one of the largest funders of pediatric cancer research in Canada, it has contributed to pediatric cancer survival rates which have increased from 71% in the 1980s to over 83% today.

Here's the thing, society needs to move forward. Being part of a multicultural community,  I see discrimination happen both towards myself being part of the LGBTQQIP2SAA community and cultures and communities on a daily basis. It's disheartening and crushes me.

Myself, I fight for equality and I fight for human rights. No one should tolerate discrimination and believe me, the LGBTQQIP2SAA community, specifically the trans* community, sees this a lot. People in these communities may not say anything regarding the refusal of services because of who they are but they should.

If marginalized individuals continue to be scared to speak up and put a stand to hate, we will get nowhere as a society.

I'm not scared to speak up. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. As much as radical feminists and the anti-LGBTQQIP2SAA community hate this statement, it's true.

Sex and gender, for example, are social constructs. So why does society continue to segregate people based on their social constructs that can be changed? It's wrong, and it needs to stop.

With me competing in the Miss BC pageant,  my main focus is stopping discrimination in its heels. This is to show society that we're all human and we need to be accepted and treated equally.

The first $495 that I raise will go towards my $495 application cost.

As such, I am seeking to raise $495 for program entry fees. The program entry fee includes the following Professional workshops focusing on:

○ Interview & Public Speaking skills training

○ Manners and Etiquette training

○ Self-defense training

○ Inner Beauty and Personal Integrity

○ Modeling, choreography, and on-stage presence

○ Healthy Living and Lifestyle

○ Leadership Forum

As well as:

○ All rehearsals and judging events

○ 3 dinners

I am, of course, seeking to achieve more than $495 in donations, which be applied for:

- Transportation expenses (primarily gas expenses getting to and from venues).
-  Makeup and hair services. While I hope to get a major sponsor to provide makeup and hair services to me, this adds up.
- Professional wardrobe services. Dresses, shoes, jewelry all costs quite a fair deal of cash.

Let's put up a stand for discrimination. Let's show society who accepts our rights to be a discrimination-free society.

I'm a changemaker, let's make change happen. Please donate today.
