Jessica Roulston’s Brain Surgery Recovery
Thanks for visiting the GoFundMe page of Team Jess! As most of you now know, Jessica Roulston had a complicated brain surgery on Tuesday 2/1 to remove an aggressive brain tumor that was growing and pressing into her frontal lobe.
Thankfully, her surgeons were amazing and the surgery was a great success. She was released on Thursday, 2/3 to complete her recovery at home, as the risk of Covid was too high to warrant keeping her in the hospital longer. Not exactly what you want to hear after brain surgery, but these are the times we live in. She is in wonderful spirits and still smiling, because that’s Jess! Nash lives close by and has helped her get settled back home, and many friends have come by to look after her.
Now the hard part begins. After first experiencing a calm before the storm, her body’s healing response to the surgery has kicked into high gear. She’s experiencing swelling of her head and face, debilitating pain, and vision problems. The doctors told her this could happen up to three days after surgery and it arrived like clockwork. As expected, she faces a long road to recovery, and we will know more of the impact of the surgery as the weeks progress.
Notoriously independent, Jess has never been one to ask for help and would love nothing more than to jump right back into work, but the reality is that it will have to wait. She won’t be able to drive for a few months and will require home care for the near future, then rehab to get back on her feet. And that is where you, her friends and good Samaritans, come in.
In addition to the various medical bills she is incurring, she'll continue to have health insurance premiums, utility bills, and rent to pay. She will need grocery deliveries and daily living expenses to continue caring for herself, her twelve year old daughter Zoe, and her dog. There will also likely be unforeseen expenses attached to her recovery that we can’t anticipate today.
Please feel free to donate as much or as little as you’re comfortable with; every little bit will help. She is grateful for monetary donations and will be using both Daily Harvest and Door Dash for healthy meals if you’d prefer to bestow a gift card. Jess’s email address and contact info are below to use when purchasing gift cards from either, and all options give you an opportunity to send her a written message.
To all of you, thank you for your unwavering care and encouragement. These gifts will be a godsend as Jess focuses on healing. She will no doubt get through this in true warrior fashion and with a smile on her face, no matter what!
The pain meds, discomfort, and wonky vision are making texting and general communication difficult for Jess right now, but know that she is sending virtual bear-hugs to each and every one of you.
