Help Jessica Krock Fight Cancer
The Official Fundraiser For Jessica Krock
On June 3rd, 2022, following just over a month of being in pain, our sister Jessie was diagnosed with cancer during surgery to remove a mass in her left ovary. Prior to surgery, we were told the odds of the ovarian mass being malignant were extremely low due to her age (36) and other factors. After a longer and much more invasive surgery than originally planned, her husband (Brian) and mom (Pamela) were informed it was indeed cancer.
As of June 12th, we are still waiting on the pathology report to determine the exact type (ovarian, cervical or uterine) and stage of the cancer. Additional testing was required and we currently expect those results the week of June 20th. We hope this report will answer many of the questions we have and help guide us through the next steps in forming a treatment plan.
Jessie spent 12 days in the hospital, from May 31st when she checked into the ER to June 12th when she finally got to go home to her puppies! With her husband by her side every single day and night, they have slowly started to get a better picture of how the cancer was growing. The cancer had attached itself to several areas outside of the ovary, including her bowel, uterine wall, cervix, and ureter. Much of the pain Jessica was feeling prior to surgery is believe to have been caused by the mass actually encasing her ureter, which passes urine from the kidney to the bladder. This causes pain similar to kidney stones. Unfortunately, they could not completely remove ALL of the cancer, as it would have caused more harm.
You may be a personal friend or family member of Jessica - FYI only her brothers call her Jessie ;) - or you may know her from the YouTube Channel Krocks In The Kitchen, where her and her husband share the ongoing adventures of their whole food, plant-based lifestyle. They will be posting video updates to the channel here: https://www.youtube.com/krocksinthekitchen
We have already received a tremendous amount of support and many people have asked how they can help. Although they have medical insurance that we hope will cover a bulk of the costs, there will be a significant out of pocket cost as they fight to find the best possible treatment options.
For those in the plant-based community, you know Brian will be in charge of preparing ALL of Jessica's meals with only the BEST organic produce to flood her body with phytonutrients, which will certainly result in increased grocery bills. They are also looking into a potential stay at TrueNorth Health Center in California as Jessica prepares for treatment.
Following surgery, it was confirmed that despite their best efforts to make it work, the doctor who operated on Jessica is not "in network" for her insurance. Because she came in through the ER and was treated at a hospital that is "in network," we have been assured there won't be any issues with the coverage for her initial surgery and hospital stay, but after her June 22nd follow up appointment, any visits to this doctor would be considered "out of network" and not covered AT ALL by insurance.
Because of this, they are currently searching for the right doctor to help fight the cancer in the best way possible, and have expanded their search beyond St. Louis in hopes of finding the perfect fit. There will likely be a lot of travel costs associated with her treatment. It is going to be a long road ahead, but Jessie and Brian are remaining strong as they put together a plan and get ready for battle.
Anything you can contribute will go directly towards these expenses, and we can't thank you enough for your generosity at this difficult time.
