Jessica's Chiari Malformation Brain Surgery

January 3rd 2023 was Jessica's Chiari Malformation Brain surgery. She spent near 2 weeks at Nationwide Children's Hospital. She is now home but on a feeding tube and in a wheelchair for mobility needs untill her strength and balance come back. Jessica list bear 9lbs while I. The hospital. We are continuing Fundraiser to help with nutritional needs and travels back in forth to upcoming appointments. All support, prayers and help greatly appreciated.

Jessica is leaking spinal fluid from her nose and eye. This is caused from the blockage in her skull. She has been put on a course of 10 day antibiotics to help her body prepare for surgery more safely.

Jessica is now scheduled for Surgery on January 3rd. We begged the doctors to do surgery after Christmas so she would be home with us. After all of the appointments today we were informed that she will be having 3 surgeries in one on that day

Surgery #1 will be Her Chiari Malformation surgery. The will open the back of her skull, remove part of her dura (covering of her brain). They will also be creating a patch to protect her brain after surgery. During this part of the surgery they will also be removing C1 and C2 vertebrae. This will make more room for her brain to grow and allow her spinal fluid to flow more freely.

Surgery #2

She will be having her Adenoids removed. This will also make more room in the back of her throat for easier swallowing and breathing.

Surgery #3

Jessica will have what is called Nasal Turbinate Reduction .

During This surgery the will go through her nose and reduce the size of the Turbinates. This means they will remove layers of skin and a small bit of bone from the inside of her nose to allow her to breath better.

She will be in ICU for at least 3-4 days. Then be moved to a regular room for another 4-5 days. At least this is the plan for now.
