Jessica's Syrian Food Start-Up Fund

At the start of 2016 I met four incredible people. Nour and Khodor Jarous and their two young children arrived in our small town of Almonte, Ontario  from Lebanon, having fled from the war in Syria. Almost a year later I can still barely begin to understand the trauma and challenges they have faced and the desperate situation they have escaped. However, there is a silver lining to their story. Through the wonderful generosity of so many people, the Jarous family have started to settle in Almonte. They are renting a small home. The children are attending a local school. The whole family have made an enormous effort to learn English and integrate into our town. They have set up a fledgling catering business called Jessica's Syrian Food. Their stall at the local Farmer's Market this summer became an instant success, with people queueing to sample their delicious Syrian cooking. They are now at a point to really try and make a go of this small business. They have attended training on how to meet Food Safety Regulations.  They have been generously offered access to an inspected kitchen to do their food preparation. They are almost there! The final hurdle is that they must purchase liabilty insurance. We need your help to raise the $1000 they need. I sincerely hope that we can help this wonderful family succeed in their attempts to restart their lives. Let's make sure that Jessica's Syrian Food doesn't fall at this final hurdle. Let's help them finish 2016 on a high note with a bright New Year ahead!
