Wayne's Warriors

Donation protected
On the evening of March 9th, Wayne Hues experienced an unknown medical event that caused him to pass out while standing, leading to a freak catastrophic fall, that resulted in a break to his neck and a life-altering spinal cord injury.

Wayne is currently hospitalized. He underwent immediate surgery to repair the broken vertebrae in his neck. He is experiencing significant paralysis. He is facing a long and unknown road to recovery as we wait for his lungs to begin to work sufficiently, his spine to come out of spinal shock and hopefully begin the healing and rehabilitative process. The reality though is that with his injury he is facing a diagnosis of quadriplegia, and with that, significant immediate and long-term financial challenges.

We have every HOPE and FAITH that with high-quality and intensive rehabilitative care, Wayne will make a strong recovery! Research shows that the greatest gains in motor skills occur in the first 3 months after spinal cord injury (SCI), with most recovery complete by 9 months and additional recovery possible up to 12 to 18 months post-SCI. His medical team has recommended that when he is ready, he be sent to Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitative Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. With a stellar reputation and state-of-the-art facility, we think this will be a great place for him to begin his intensive recovery, despite it being over a 5-hour drive from his family.

If you know Wayne, his family is everything to him. He is 27 years devoted and married to Christine and has 3 boys, Mason, Logan and Devin who are all rallying to support their Dad. Wayne has always been a big strong guy, nicknamed the BG by his older sister, for "Big-Guy". Wayne has given several years of sacrifice and commitment to his community and his country as a volunteer Firefighter at Hillside Fire Department back in Rhinebeck NY where he grew up and as an honorably discharged United States Marine.

We ask that you consider helping Wayne and his family as they chart these unknown waters and be a Warrior for Wayne. Any dollar amount and prayer can help. Other patients with similar injury face approximately $1,000,000 in medical costs in the first year alone. We are hopeful to raise funds for Wayne to support his medical needs and care that exceed insurance and to assist someone in being with him when he rehabilitates at the Craig H. Nelson facility in Salt Lake City and aftercare.

While there is a long road ahead, we know that our friends and family and communities can help Wayne by being a warrior alongside him. Please consider donating to this gofundme to assist him and his family in that journey. Thank you!

Please consider sharing amongst your networks and please check back here for updates on his progress. We are beyond grateful for your support.

**If you are interested in donating funds outside of gofundme we have set-up an account directly for this use and any donations for his care needs.
