The Gift of Reading

"Reading isn't important because it helps you get a job. It's important because it gives you room to exist beyond the reality you're given. Reading makes the world better. It is how humans merge. How minds connect. Dreams. Empathy. Understanding. Escape. Reading is love in action." Matt Haig - author
The CHS Sixth Form English Society aim to raise £1k to buy books for 0-14 year olds at The Wood Street Mission and Manchester Children's Hospital, helping deprived children in the wider community develop their own love of stories through the written word.
"Books should be a part of every child’s life; to put a book into the hand of a child is to give them the gift of education, the power of words, and the hope of a future.
Children up and down the country are trapped by circumstance or illness with their only chance to escape confined between the corners of a book. Reading can free a child; can take them all over the world and even to magical places that exist only in the minds of the readers.
They can experience the dangers and rush of Middle Earth; the magic of Diagon Alley and the mysteries of Nany Drew all in one afternoon. A book can open so many doors; it really is the gift that keeps on giving. " - CHS Sixth Form Students
Please support the students with this wonderful initiative and give the gift of reading to those in need this Christmas.
