JH 1 Year No Beer? - Help save lives in Rural Aus
Donation protected
In Australia rural and remote doctors and nurses are often called upon to attend the pre-hospital scene of farm accidents, car crashes and disasters, due to tyranny of distance in rural Australia.
Many rural and remote doctors & nurses do not have access to standardised emergency kits and equipment to take to the scene. There have been international anecdotes of people dying at he scene due to lack of appropriate emergency equipment despite a doctor or nurse in attendance.
A group of rural doctors from around Australia have begun the process of setting up a charity to provide standardised pre-hospital trauma kits to rural and remote doctors & nurses to keep in their cars for such emergencies. This group will provide standardised regular pre-hospital training and support for interested clinicians. This will also help to link the remote clinicians (holding the kit and appropriate training) with metro retrieval services to be deployed when needed.
A similar charity exists in Scotland that has successfully provided emergency kits (Sandpiper Bags) and pre-hospital training to hundreds of healthcare workers throughout the United Kingdom. The charity is called the Sandpiper Trust. http://www.sandpipertrust.org/
We are going to replicate Sandpiper in Australia and we have their blessing. Our charity will be called "Sandpiper Australia".
To raise money and awareness for this worthy cause I have committed to giving up beer (and all other forms of alcohol) for one whole year or until the fundraising goal is met.
I started AF (alcohol free) on the 10th June 2019 and finish on Wednesday the 10th June 2020 unless we meet the target earlier!!
Each Sandpiper Bag will cost around $1200AUD fully kitted out. There will be significant costs with logistics and training going forward. I hope to raise 20k to fast track the setup of the charity and delivery of the kits to our dedicated & hardworking rural and remote colleagues across the country.
I've already raised 10k and am hoping to raise a further 10k with this campaign. Please get on board and sponsor me as I take on this challenge to raise money and awareness for such a great cause!!
