BFFD Accelerant Detection K9
Donation protected
The Beaver Falls Fire Department has been given a unique opportunity to obtain an accelerant detection K9. This asset will be available County wide and abroad to assist in fire investigations and fire prevention programs.
This K9 will be available to assist in your investigations by performing fire scene searches, crowd searches, area searches, vehicle searches, as well as clothing searches.
Juvenile fire setting or “juvenile arson” has been identified as the fastest growing “fire threat” in the United States today. – National Burn Institute
Fire setting is the largest cause of home deaths among children. It is the second leading cause of all fatal home accidents. Juvenile fire setters account for about 50% of those arrested for arson. According to the FBI, nearly one-third of arrestees were children under the age of 15. Over half of children report having played with fire by the time they leave elementary school. About 70% of fires started by juveniles are started by lighters or matches.
We know juvenile fire play is a problem. We need to be proactive before tragedy hits home.
Performing demonstrations of the canine’s powerful nose in schools and at public events will provide a powerful education necessary in combating fire play. If you play with lighters or matches, the Nose Knows.
We humbly ask for your help starting this program so we may enjoy this asset in the community for many years to come.
Please donate and help us in our fight.
