SC Flood Victims Relief Fund
Donation protected
Columbia, SC was hit by Hurricane Joaquin and a historic amount of rainfall last week that caused devastating damage to homes, businesses, infrastructure, and cars. There were 19 confirmed deaths and thousands of people (some of whom lack flood insurance) have lost everything and are living as refugees in local highschools.
While there has already been a significant effort to address the most important issues (rescuing flood victims, providing shelter), there is much more work to be done. It will take Columbia, SC years to recover from this loss.
We are students based in Charleston, SC and cannot directly volunteer for the cleanup in Columbia; this being said, we are conducting a food and blanket drive and raising money on campus at CofC in hopes that awareness of this cause spreads beyond our city and state. Any donation could help us contribute towards the efforts undertaken by the Red Cross, an organization who we believe will make the most of these funds to aid those who have nothing.
