Jillian's Senior Chy-Phy Trip

My niece, Jillian Doty, has been a Martins Ferry High School Chy-Phy Science Club member for the past four years. Chy-Phy has always planned an amazing trip to Florida for its members. I remember being part of this back in 1996—flying for my first time, going to Disney---it was such a great opportunity! Since my time at Martins Ferry High School, the Chy-Phy trip has expanded to a 10-day science field trip with stops at Disney Parks, Universal Studios, an airboat ride, snorkeling, Stingray Cove, Shark Bay, and an aquarium trip. It is quite an opportunity for the students. Many students have never been out of the Ohio Valley or been on a lengthy vacation trip. This is their chance to not only explore science in a new, immersive way, but to gain life experience and make wonderful memories.

Jillian has been fundraising for this trip. The trip cost $2400. That’s a lot of candy bars and fundraiser tickets to sell! Thank you all who have purchased these from her in support of this trip in the past. However, she’s still short on the amount she has raised. This amount includes just the cost of the trip—only one meal is covered in this overall cost. She will have to pay for meals for 10 days.

Jillian works two jobs, but her cheering schedule often cuts down her work availability. She was concerned she wouldn’t be able to do some of the extras of the trip to cut down on her costs.
